My gawd lads, will you stop raising the bar, I cant keep up
It is with out a doubt the best editing into re-enacting footage ive ever seen And to all the guys that took part, you should be very proud of what you achieved there.
Great job guys, again a game that would have ticked all my boxes I'll have to wait till next year before I can make another one

Yes, lots of people on YouTube are wondering which filters you used and how you achieved the look!
Mr Hess is rather dashing isn't he?!
The steam engine is mine from a railway event about a year ago. I'd forgotten I'd shot it.
Well it's a nice shot... but it's a British Railways marked engine (the lion gives it away) so is post 1947. Note, I only just realised a few minutes ago...
D'oh!! Sorry... that's my dad's influence coming through. He'll be impressed I noticed... lol. He's an ex-trainspotter and an avid railway modeller.
That is very impressive indeed.
Cheers
Martin

My YT channel is run by my evil twin. He pretty much gave up responding after the 100th request on how to build a mortar and the 500th "AK47 HAHAHAHAHAHA" comment.
It's all in the sidebar. If they can't be arsed to look that's their problem
yes, I find when reading all the Youtube comments saying it is well edited to make it look real I want to reply and say - "no, that is just him, filming us, with a camera."
Though Martin obviously did work, cut and pasted and such, non of that video feels different to the day. What makes me grin is that I watch it and it feels that their is no digital malarkey making it feel old-y time and no hours of boring footage deleted to the bin to make it interesting.
It was just Martin, filming us, with a camera, in a dinky scarf.

Heh, yes I still get stupid comments on my vids from years and years ago...
"no, that is just him, filming us, with a camera."
How DARE you !!!
People mean it as a compliment but yes, if you're noticing the editing then it's not a very good edit. A bit like looking at a Vermeer and complimenting the brush strokes.
Apart from the texture of film there are certain subtle things that define the "look" of old newsreels. Apart from the limited lens technology - very little use of telephoto and zooms had yet to be invented, the way in which these reels were edited was much more primitive. Each shot is held for slightly too long. The subjects tend to look a teeny bit uncomfortable and are clearly used to standing stock-still whenever they see a camera pointed at them. It's very easy to overcook it though.
There is now a new version uploaded to comply with Local Bylaws. The other one will be taken down shortly so please update any links.

Ah, I see you have cut out the German soldier ID scene. Something to do with the exploitation of PoWs I imagine....
Richard! Do I spy you doing a little correction step as you march past the camera just after a minute in?!?
Probably... it's hard to stay in step when no-one else is...

the front rank was in step I will have you know!, what happens behind me is behind me.

Correct!
It takes practice to do "Caterpillar" or "Mexican Wave" marching

Rich, you should have said it was your 100% authentic representation of the Home Guard.
They don't like it up 'em!!
Anyway, there were bigger mistakes than just being out of step... doh...
